ANSWER Scholarship got off to a great start with its first Mentors for Mom event in 2016. Scholarship recipients were joined by their mentors and Board members at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC, to learn more about women’s health issues and how to better manage work-life balance.
Drs. Kimberly and David Newman, who operate their own OBGYN practice, were on hand to discuss an array of women’s health issues including having children after 40, the HPV vaccination and holistic health. They talked about the importance of eating organic foods, portion control and taking supplements.
Dianna Williams, Human Resources Director for Piedmont Plastics, talked about cultural trends related to work-life balance. Participants also shared their experiences with balancing school, work and family. And helpful tools for doing a better job of creating work-life balance were also part of the discussion.
“Empowering women with knowledge about important issues like health is critical to their overall success and well-being,” said Susan Andersen, ANSWER Scholarship Founder and Director. “We’re providing women with scholarship support to help them advance their education, but programs like Mentors for Mom also play a significant part in their long-term success.”
The next Mentors for Mom event will be held in February and focus on career development.
